Table Saw RouterAdding a table saw router to your workshop can add valuable and much needed space with very little effort. For your table saw router, you can choose from a standalone cabinet that provides not only working space but room for storing tools and is easily moved about on locking casters, or a portable table saw router. Many woodworkers also like to build their own table saw router – and find that they save money when doing so. Constructing a Table Saw Router Table When selecting the table saw router that is right for your particular situation and budget, keep in mind that you want a flat, smooth, and stable work surface – so the tabletop material will allow your stock to slide easily against the fence and the table with the least amount of friction. Make sure that you r table top is stable, and thick enough to support your stock and that there are center supports for longer tables. A white table saw router table top is also desirable, as it allows you to clearly see the piece you are working on. Ideally, your table saw router table top should be made of a medium density fiberboard and then covered with your choice of plastic laminate, like Melamine or Formica. You can smooth out laminate surfaces on your table saw router table top with wet/dry sand paper and add to its slickness by applying a coat of clear shoe polish to the top after sanding. Setting up Your Table Saw Router Adding versatility to your table saw router is as simple as taking advantage of your table saw’s miter gauge. This is tree of separate free standing units that are constructed by hand or new, commercially manufactured table saw router tables. By simply plowing a groove in the top of the table and dropping your table saw miter gauge into it, you can make precise crosscuts with your table saw and make full use of your miter gauge. Mounting your table saw router is easy. Drill three holes and screw the base plate of your table saw to the underside of the table. Many woodworkers also choose to build their own inserts for the table saw router that allows them to quickly change their bits without necessitating working under the table to do so. Once your table saw router is mounted, you can add a shop built or commercially made fence. Many folks choose to make their own fence to attach to the tabletop with clamps, pins, or bolts. Now is the time that you can also look into dust collection by adding a vacuum port to the fence for a safer working environment and easier shop clean up.
