Table Saw AccessoriesYour table saw may be one of your favorite pieces of equipment, but making it even more functional just requires the addition of the best table saw accessories. There are quite a few table saw accessories that you might wish to consider for your table saw, depending upon your needs and budget. There are some that you can even make yourself. Let’s look at five of the table saw accessories that are must-haves for any woodworking shop, big or small. Rip Fence The rip fence is one of the most used table saw accessories that you will find in any well-equipped wood shop. Most table saws are equipped with a fence or guide that can be found from the front of the table to the table’s back and parallel to the cutting blade. If your saw is not equipped with a fence, you will need to purchase one. The rip fence should adjust to determine where the cut is to be made on the stock; thus the name rip fence. Crosscut Sled Making precise cuts is easier when you use a crosscut sled. The sled is used to hold your wood stock at a fixed angle of ninety degrees from the saw blade and is perfect for repeated cuts. The sled is guided by a runner that is beneath it that slides into the miter slot. If you don’t have a crosscut sled, you can purchase one or make one in your shop easily. There are many online plans that show you how to build a crosscut sled. Miter Gauge Of all table saw accessories, the miter gauge may be the most needed. Nearly all table saws will feature grooves running from the front to the back that are parallel to the blade’s cutting plane that can be used as a position for the crosscut sled mentioned above or a miter gauge. The miter gauge can be adjusted to make even more precise cuts rather than right angles. Stacked Dado A dado is a groove in a stock of wood. A stacked dado blade set will allow you to cut dados into your wood up to a maximum of 7/8”. A dado has two outside blades and inside chip “cutters” that make easy work of cutting designs or grooves for other needs in your woodworking projects. Tenon Jig Guided by a miter slot or fence, a tenon jig is a jig for your table saw that allows you to cut tenons or to do other work on the ends of your wood stock, such as making grooves and bevels. There are tons of online plans for shop made tenon jigs as well.
