Laminate Shelf

One of the best choices out there when it comes to choosing a shelf is the laminate shelf.  A great shelf for light duty, a plastic laminate shelf resists rusts and stains, is inexpensive and won’t give you any worries when it comes to moisture.  While not the strongest shelf out there, a laminate shelf can provide you with an excellent way to store or display items that you use every day.

Laminate is easy to clean and requires virtually no maintenance other than an occasional wipe down with a damp rag.  Because a laminate shelf is made of plastic, there are an infinite number of colors and designs of laminate available.

Benefits of a Laminate Shelf

While the laminate shop may not be your best bet for heavy items in the work shop or garage, around the home storage and display of lighter items can be the best use for the laminate shelf. A laminate shelf is cheaper than metal or wood shelves, and the laminate shelf is a great choice if you need a lot of storage space for lightweight items in the home.

Plastic laminate provides a great look for shelving as well, and many wooden shelves are actually covered by laminate.  The laminate shelf is perfect for bathroom and laundry rooms because this type of shelf will not absorb moisture from the air like a wooden shelf will and won’t corrode or rust like metal.

While weighing the benefits of the laminate shelf, it should also be considered that there are some negative sides to this material in a shelving unit as well.  You can see some warping in a laminate plastic shelf if a weighty item is stored in the center of the shelf for a long period of time.  This type of shelf is hard to break but it will bend.

Laminate Shelf Inlays

As a shelf inlay, laminate is a great material, especially when it comes to shelf racks that are made of wood or metal.  Oftentimes, these shelves will be constructed with spaces between the metal or wood that might allow for items to fall through the cracks.  By adding a laminate shelf inlay to this type of shelf, your problem is solved.

There are different types and sizes of laminate shelf inlays available just for this purpose in pre-fabricated form.  When used on top of a sturdier material like wood or metal, the laminate shelf inlay provides enough support to hold greater amounts of weight than simply a plastic laminate shelf by itself.
