Build a Fireplace MantelIf you would like to build a fireplace mantel as a weekend project, it doesn't have to be a complicated task. Fireplace design in general presents you with some basic considerations to make, such as: the design of the fireplace, fuel type you want to use, location of the fireplace, firebox liners, masonry that will be required, and the ventilation system that you'll need to make it all come together and perform perfectly. If you already have a fireplace in your home and are just want to build a fireplace mantel to replace an existing mantel (or maybe your fireplace is bare and has never had a mantel), then this article will show you how to plan your fireplace mantel and what you'll need to get this great do-it-yourself project off the ground. Fireplace mantels may be made of various materials, although most do-it-yourself fireplace building projects use wood which is either natural or stained or varnished.
