Makita Compound Miter SawFor complete control over your complex angles, there is no better choice than the makita compound miter saw.A compound miter saw or CMS is commonly used for molding, trim projects but the Makita saws are also powerful enough for larger project such as framing. The compound feature allows you move the saw in relation to the horizontal axis. The Makita offers a 7.5-inch, a 10-inch and 12-inch compound miter saw. Versatile Makita Compound Miter Saw The 7 ½-Inch Makita 4 Pole Slide Compound Miter saw runs just under five hundred dollars (list price). It can handle a 2" X 12" board at a 90°. At 27 lb and with an accessible handle it is a very portable tool. It has a 10 AMP motor (6,000 RPM). Like the larger models it has 9 positives stops. If you need to cut anything larger than a 6 inch block you may want to consider a saw with a larger blade. The 10-inch compound miter saw from Makita lists for over just over five hundred dollars. It has a 15 amp motor, (3,700 RPM) and a year long warranty. The 10-inch blade is the most popular because it can handle most projects and is less expensive than the 12-inch. The 12-inch compound miter saw by Makita is very light for a 12-inch saw and lists for about six hundred dollars. It has the same powerful 15 amp motor has the 10-inch. Though not accurate enough of picture frames this product is perfect for work on crown molding and is considered very accurate for general framing purposes. The electric brake works well. The saw has a D style handle that is easy to grip. The saw is both smooth and powerful. It makes very clean cuts. Putting the Makita Compound Miter Saw to Task The miter gage is easy to read but the bevel gage can be a bit difficult to read. The manual is somewhat vague. Changing the blade is difficult because the blade lock must be depressed while you pull the shield away and take off the nut. All Makita Compound miter saws have a soft start and are very quiet. It offers 9 stops: 15, 22 ½, 30, 45 degrees both left and right plus a ninth stop at 0. The machine is easy to set up and adjust but the stock blade in it doesn't last. All saws come with a Carbide-Tipped Blade Vertical Vise, Dust Bag, 2 ea. Extension Wing, Triangular Rule, Socket Wrench (sizes vary).
