Woodwork ForumsAll About Woodwork ForumsA woodwork forum allows users to connect with one another and help each overcome woodworking obstacles. One of the most fascinating things about the Internet is that it can bring people together from across a wide expanse of geographic locations to network, make friends, and share common problems; woodwork forums are an excellent example of the propensity of the online world to create a community of people with similar interests, hobbies, and businesses. A woodwork forum allows users to connect with one another in a unique and meaningful way. While there are many woodwork forums on the World Wide Web, most of them function in the same way in regards to joining the forum. Typically, a user will create a free account, which is usually verified via email. Users will select a username and password for use when they log into the woodwork forums. Once registered, members will have access to all of the forum topics to responds to other members' posts or to start a post of their own. Posts are called "threads", and beginning a new thread usually begins a new discussion. Woodwork Forum Discussions Topics that are discussed in woodwork forums are as diverse as woodworking itself. Common topics include: introductions (introduce yourself and tell a bit about your woodworking skills), general woodworking forum discussion (all topics), design discussion, woodworking plans, woodworking tools, power tools, trim carpentry, joinery, woodturning, wood finishing, project showcase (to upload pictures of your projects), woodworking tips and tricks, homemade jig ideas, woodworking how-to videos, help forum, forestry and milling (for loggers and saw mill operators), hand tools, machinery, tool reviews, timber, shop safety, off topic (for topics not covered in the woodwork forum), classified section, site help, forum suggestions, and more. Some of the best forums will have an "ask an expert" discussion section where woodworkers can ask questions of a professional woodworker and receive a prompt (usually within 48 hours) answer. Forum Postings Monitored Most woodwork forums will have a forum moderator whose full time (or part time, depending on the size of the forum and its popularity) job is to monitor the postings that are submitted by members. Woodwork forum moderators may also be responsible for responding to threads that are less popular so that all members of the forum community can feel like they are interacting. Moderators may also remove inappropriate or misleading posts, or those posts that are considered "spam" (trying to sell a product or service or direct members to another website or forum). Most woodwork forums will request that members do not post any information in their threads that is unrelated to the current topic or that has a link to an outside source unless the source is beneficial to the other members of the forum. For example, a post might include a link to a good instructional video; this would be acceptable in most forums. A link to a manufacturer's website would likely be unacceptable. Woodwork forums provide a great way for the woodworking community to come together to share common tips, advice, and more. Woodwork forums allow even the lonely woodworker in a remote area of the country to connect with a larger body of users from around the world.
