Cabinet Crown MoldingIf you want to provide a regal look to your cabinet, you can do so by installing a crown molding on top of your cabinet. However, installing a cabinet crown molding is not exactly something you can easily do by yourself. In fact, this can be the most difficult part when it comes to installing a cabinet, since you have to deal with a whole lot of measurements, compound angles, and splices that were never taught in school. You have to make sure that your cabinet was installed correctly; otherwise your cabinet crown molding won't be pleasing to the eye. The important thing here is to make sure that your measurements are correct. Having said that, the first step in installing a cabinet crown molding is to take measurements of every area you are going to attach the mold to. It's time to put the adage, "Measure twice, cut once," in practice. To make sure that you are getting the right numbers, it is a good idea to ask assistance from another person. If he gets the same numbers as you did, then you can be sure that your measurements are correct. After getting the measurements, the next step is to cut the molding based on your measurements. To make it easier for you, turn it upside down. This will make sure that you are keeping the correct shape. However, cutting the molding is not as easy as its sounds. You have to consider the angles of your cabinet, since they are not the perfect 45- or 90-degree angles that are easy to deal with. Be very careful when it is already time for you to cut the molding, since this cannot be undone anymore. It is easier to install a cabinet crown molding if your cabinet is square and has a level surface. Otherwise, you might need to cut off the lip that sticks out of the side of the cabinet. This is actually easier than trying to retain the uneven corner, since this will only make your molding look terrible. In order to cut the lip, you need to mark the area where you are going to cut it. Make sure that you are not cutting the cabinet's side when you cut through the lip. If there are any extra parts of the lip left behind, you can cut it off by using a chisel. The steps may be a tad complicated, so it is advisable to just ask a pro to do it rather than try to do it yourself to the detriment of your cabinet. But if you have some knowledge about carpentry, why not give it a try?
