Maple Crown Moulding

When choosing a crown molding, the choice of maple can add a truly classic touch to your finished room.  Whether you are trying to match some kitchen cabinets or starting from scratch maple crown molding will definitely not leave you wishing you had gone in a different direction.

Beauty of Maple Crown Molding

Maple is a hardwood with a very pretty grain.  A light colored stain that will pull out the natural color of the maple will give you the best results.  However, if you are wanting to apply a darker color, look into a gel stain.  Maple can get blotchy with darker stains.  Using a gel stain rather than a liquid stain on hardwoods that blotch is effective because it will only stain the surface, gel does not sink into the wood, leaving you with a much more uniform stain.  Though, you should consider the fact that if you do stain it darker, it will eliminate the visual effect of the beautiful maple grain. Maple crown molding adds a finishing touch to a room that will not go unnoticed.  The eye will be drawn upwards and there will be an obvious appreciation.  Crown molding is one of the easiest and most inexpensive home remodeling jobs.  With very little effort a room can be given a very classy upgrade. Various effects can be achieved with different styles and patterns of maple crown molding.  From a very chic simple look to an elaborate multi-layered ornamental pattern, crown molding has just what you are looking to achieve.

Shopping for Maple Crown Molding

Grab your measuring tape and get the dimensions of your room.  Then, you are off to the home improvement center of your choice.  Maple crown molding can be found at almost any lumber yard as well.  Armed with your measurements and a basic idea of what you are looking for, you should be able to find a great fit for your project.  Be sure to order at least 10% over your measured total to allow for scraps when you make your cuts. On the other hand, if your local stores do not have a pattern that is just right, calling a local woodworking specialist or remodeler may be the answer.  They may be able to help you find that special creative element, giving just the perfect touch to your room.  With so many options out there, do not settle for something you are not happy with.  Be patient, shop around and do your homework.  There are enough creative craftsmen out there to help you achieve the desired look you are after.

Installation of Maple Crown Molding

Once you have your maple crown molding in hand, you will need to start thinking about the installation process.  Again, your local home improvement center or lumber yard may be able to help you out.  There may be installers you can hire as you purchase the materials.  And, most certainly, if you custom order from a craftsman or remodeler, they should be able to bid the installation with the sale. If you are planning on installing your own maple crown molding, be sure to get familiar with the process before you begin.  Make sure you put your finish on before you install.  If will be easier to stain your wood on a workhorse than after it is up on the wall.  There will be some minor finishing after install, but you really do not want to be trying to stain it while it is hanging eight or ten feet off the floor. Your choice of maple crown molding will be satisfying for years to come.
